The classic 1950s Soccer Deluxe is synonymous with French pride in design. Its enduring popularity over more than fifty years in continental bars and clubs are a testament to its timeless style and lasting quality.
This very special limited edition version, produced by The Games Room Company for Goodwood, celebrates the hugely successful Gulf motor racing team, whose association with screen legend Steve McQueen has ensured it's iconic status. The classic combination of light blue and orange will be instantly recognisable to motor sport fans everywhere whilst the number 20 is of course that of McQueen's Porsche 917 in the thrilling 1971 movie, 'Le Mans'. In 2017 the car driven in the movie achieved a hammer price of $14M, which is thought to be the highest price ever paid for a Porsche at auction.
Still made near the famous French region, the Soccer Deluxe is a solid wood construction, with a strong cabinet that sports rounded edges, to give it a classic look with a retro angle. The telescopic stainless steel bars are outfitted with shock springs and sculpted round handles. The players they support are made of die-cast metal, and can be painted in a selection of team colours. Its bar-room origins are still noticeable, embodied in its built-in ashtrays. The playfield is crafted with sloped corners, preventing the ball from rolling to a stop in a dreaded ‘dead zone’.
A number of wood veneers are available for the table, including stained hazelnut, stained grey, light beech, and noyer wood, the last two of which are shown in the photos above. The Soccer Deluxe can be further customised with a choice of trims: sky blue, sapphire blue, plain beech, ruby red, bronze, emerald green, dark green, grey or black.
The iconic Soccer Deluxe is invitingly playable; a unique combination of an excellent game, and a cultural souvenir.
Our founder, Reginald Waldersmith, was a keen player of table football. Years of practice made him into a formidable player. The mastery of his aggressive, co-ordinated attacks and the lightning-fast reactions of his defence combined to make him legendary in the Waldersmith household, where he quickly became reigning champion. However, opponents occasionally noted this might be because he was always somewhat vague on the controversial ‘no spinning’ rule.
We’ve been selling tables since 1962, so know a thing or two about our products! Our showroom will gladly assist you on any questions you may have before or after you purchase any Games Room Company equipment.
A note on delivery and installation
We are pleased to deliver any of our products free of charge anywhere in the UK but it should be noted that this is effectively a kerbside delivery and that the driver is only obliged to bring the piece to the kerb or drive closest to your door. It is therefore strongly recommended that you have the appropriate number of people on hand to take the product inside, whether it be a private or commercial address. We can of course advise on the required manpower on a case by case basis.
White glove delivery and installation Service
For an additional fee of £250.00 we will send extra personnel with the van, who will not only perform a white glove delivery service, taking the product directly to its final resting place including up stairs if necessary, but will also carry out full assembly and installation. After a thorough check of the completed piece they will depart taking any unwanted packaging with them. Please note that this does not include Cornwall or the Highlands of Scotland and our office can prepare a custom quotation for these areas if required.
