Description

Introduced by Konami in 1991, The Simpsons Arcade Game was fast-paced, simplistic and instantly enjoyable. It was a quintessential coin-op ‘beat ‘em up’ that came along at a time when the genre was thriving and Simpsons mania had just begun to kick in.

This machine has undergone a full restoration, and we have re-made the control panel overlay. The monitor chassis and electronic components have been bench tested, and much of the machine is in a superb original condition.

The game is best experienced in multiplayer mode, though it can get a little cramped when 4 players take to the controls!

The plot doesn’t win any prizes for complexity, with the action consisting primarily of dealing out beatings to a motley crew of assorted yellow-skinned baddies, but the inclusion of subtle references to the show, such as the three-eyed fish on the forest stage and the Space Mutants adorning the walls of Moe’s Tavern, only gave the fans more reason to love it.

The four principal characters are voiced by their respective voice actors from the series, who provide quips and general observations. Players can assume the role of Homer, who fights with his fists, Marge, who turns her vacuum cleaner into a weapon, Bart, who swings his trademark skateboard, or Lisa, who whips her enemies with a jump rope.

As you’ve probably guessed, it all amounts to a shed load of anarchic fun, and with a full refurbishment nearing completion in our workshop this particular example is set to entertain you for years to come.

We at the Games Room Company have always had a great appreciation for video games, ever since the first commercial video game (Computer Space) was released back in 1971. We were one of the first companies to bring over TAITO’s Space Invaders to the UK, quickly going on to supply pubs all over the country. Our founder, Reginald Waldersmith, was a particularly avid fan of Atari’s Pong, describing it as being “quite as fun as real tennis, and not nearly as exhausting”. We have proudly continued his fondness for retro video games, and much of our inventory includes games we’ve manufactured ourselves.
