Twist and Shout One-Armed Bandit

A must for all Beatles fans, the 'Twist and Shout' one armed bandit is of course inspired by their 1963 hit, which appeared on the band's first album, Please Please Me in the same year. Often assumed to be a Beatles original, the song was in fact written by Phil Medley and Bert Russell in 1961, and was recorded by The Top Notes (1961) and The Isley Brothers (1962) before the Fab Four produced their own hugely successful version.

Trivia lovers might be interested to know that the track made a second UK chart entry in November 2010, 47 years after it was originally recorded! It was the highest charting Beatles track after iTunes finally secured the rights to release the band's back catalogue and entered the charts at Number 48 in the first of a two-week run.

The Twist and Shout was made by the Australian company Aristocrat Leisure Ltd, who adpated their popular 'Jubilee International' model to fit the 1960's Rock 'n' Roll theme. Aristocrat produced their first machine in 1953 and went on to become one of the largest manufacturers in the world. During the 1960's a great many of their machines were imported to the UK, where they saw action in amusement arcades all around the British coastline.

This example has been fully restored by our technicians and as you can see from the photos, is in beautiful condition. Unlike the garish paint jobs that adorn many slot machines this one has a very stylish, even understated feel, with a satin steel cabinet embellished by chrome details.

Our founder, Reginald Waldersmith, was far from an avid gambler, but he was extremely knowledgeable about the industry. He specialised in ‘one armed bandits’, and they were an essential part of the business that eventually became the Games Room Company. After servicing slot machines and jukeboxes on American airbases after the war, the resultant friendships Reginald made in the US armed forces allowed him to begin shipping them to the UK, and begin trading as the Games Room Company.

We’ve been selling games tables since 1962, so we know a thing or two about our products! Our showroom will gladly assist you on any questions you may have before or after you purchase any Games Room Company equipment.
