Bennett Pump Company was founded by Thomas Bennett in 1919 when he announced "All we have here is an ambition to succeed". Their first products were hand-crank barrel pumps, with electrically driven meter pumps following in 1929 and gravity feed pumps a year or so later. In 1954 they introduced the 900 series, on which this model is based, and this was the first pump to offer a wide panoramic curved glass dial face in twin or single product/hose models capable of servicing two automobiles at one time.

The hoses and handles might be missing but the colours on this pump, enhanced hugely by the rusty hues and the patina of age, add enormously to its appeal. That glorious green works fabulously alongside the rusty orange, and because the pump is double sided, with the same windows and detailing on the back, you can admire it from any angle you wish. This is one piece you won't want to hide away in a shady corner.

Formed by Harry F. Sinclair in 1916, Sinclair Oil is one of the oldest continuous names in the oil industry. The Sinclair dinosaur first appeared in 1930 and “Dino” quickly became a marketing icon whose popularity with the public ensured that the brand was a monster hit. The 'Dino' logo often appeared alongside their trademark green diplodocus but on this gorgeous 'Bennett' pump, dating from the 1950's, the dinosaur has thankfully gone walkabout leaving us with an admirably restrained art deco style gem.

For once our restoration work has been kept to a minumum, amounting to not much more that a general clean up. When a piece has this much character the last thing you want to do is embark on re-spray so we've left her as we found her, and she's all the better for it.
