Everything you need to know about One Armed Bandit

The classic casino game One Armed Bandit adds old school charm to a games room

If you’re looking for a great piece of games room equipment that you know will keep all of your visitors properly entertained, there’s nothing like an old casino machine. These games are brilliant; they’ve been keeping casinos across the world packed out for decades, they’re simple enough to become slightly addictive to make sure you always want another turn, and anyone, young or old, can get the hang of playing them quickly. Vintage casino games are bright and colourful, so as well as being lots of fun, they look incredible in a games room, and really bring burst of Las Vegas glamour to any room.

The most popular of all single player casino machines? A good old fashioned One Armed Bandit!

What is One Armed Bandit and how do you play?

One Armed Bandit is the old nickname for a traditional slot machine, the type you would find in casinos and arcades across the world. The nickname comes from the ‘arm’ at the side of the machine that you pull down in order for the game to begin; the ‘bandit’ part refers to either how addictive the machines are, or how they steal all of your money as you keep on trying for ‘just one more game’!

One Armed Bandit machines have been fixtures at casinos since they first became popular, and you’ll find multiple brands on show in any you walk into. Most manufacturers will have created their own model, and you’ll see slot machines designed around famous films and music icons too. Nowadays, many models of the machine have got rid of the arm altogether and replaced it with a button, and they’re covered in lights, sounds and flashy colours to stand out in a crowded casino.

Slot machines are incredibly easy to play, which is probably why they are so addictive! The aim of the game is to make sure that all of the symbols on the screen of the machine match up - get them all, and you’ll win the money. All you need is a bag of change and you’re ready to go. Enter your coins into the slot, pull down on the arm and cross your fingers that the symbols match up to give you a payout!

Antique casino equipment was a particular passion of the Games Room Company’s founder, Reginald Waldersmith, who was extremely knowledgeable about the machines and always on the lookout for the most alluring model of the machine he could find.

We like to carry on that tradition, so all of the One Armed Bandits currently in our showroom are truly stunning, vintage machines from old casinos across the world. These machines really show off the attention to detail and high level of craftsmanship that went into constructing them back in the day; for example, the Mills Extra design looks too delicate and beautiful to ever have belonged in a smoky casino! So as well as being incredible fun for the whole family, One Armed Bandit machines at Games Room Company are also real collector’s pieces, antique machines that have stood the test of time. And of course, we always have our eyes peeled for any new vintage casino equipment to join our current selection!

Come and try out a One Armed Bandit machine for yourself at our showroom, and see which stunning vintage design you love the most!
