With a concept and design by the renowned Steve Ritchie, Stern’s 2013 Star Trek pinball table boasts a stellar following, with the lighting and sound effects winning particular praise from the fans. It’s said that the colours were designed to reflect those used by director JJ Abrams when creating the lighting for the bridge of the Enterprise in the movie itself. It’s a particularly fast table, with more responsive flippers and noticeably quicker sling shots than those you’ll find in older games.
The ruleset includes six modes which are stacked three deep, and each of these matches a scene from the movie. Rather ingeniously, the depth of each mode progresses in the same way that the corresponding scene from the movie evolves.
The fast ramps and challenging ‘skill shots’ all contribute to the addictiveness of this table, and with a franchise as strong as this it was always destined to be a classic.
