Pool tables... A brief history

From impressive American giants to the space saving Fusion pool dining table, The Games Room Company has the pool table for you. We stock a large collection of pool tables suitable for every location and level of player, and also specialise in restoring old tables back to their former glory.

The game of pool orignated from Billiards, which was first played in the 1500s. It was not however, played by the masses back then as it generally only took place in royal palaces, which gave the sport a reputation of being a 'gentleman's' game.

The earliest version of the game of pool was played on lawns and was often compared to a form of croquet because the purpose of the game was to shoot balls through a course of hoops to knock over a cone shaped object. The game was then transferred indoors and played on the floor, but it was soon found to be hard on the backs of players who were continuously bending over. This is why the game of pool was eventually moved a-top a table.

Nowadays we play english pool, american pool snooker or, more rarely, Carom (a French pool game, all of whose roots lie embedded in the historical game of Billiards.

This traditional game is still hugely popular today, played by young or old. So whether you are after a collectable period piece, or fun for the whole family, The Games Room Company can provide exactly what you are looking for, customised to suit your every need.
